David Zanca

Over his thirty four year IT career, David Zanca has specialized in bringing value to customers and ensuring high-volume, high-visibility systems succeed.  But, his proudest professional achievement is the manner in which he conducted himself and led his organizations.  With a strong degree of humility and a servant leader attitude, David tried to always put his team, the customer, and the greater good of the organization ahead of his self-interests.  Leveraging this approach, Spainwood Consulting and his book, Engaging Your Team: Lessons in Servant Leadership were created. 

 

During his eleven years working for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), David worked extensively in the transportation and hospitality industries.  He assisted clients with strategies and implementations of revenue and yield management, booking and reservation systems.  In 1993, he joined FedEx.  He served in numerous IT management positions, concentrating mainly on customer experience and service.  This experience and increasing levels of responsibility led to David being appointed to the Board of Directors of Interline Brands, Inc (IBI).  Interline was publicly traded on the NYSE until acquired in a private equity transaction in October, 2012.  David served on the Governance and Nominating Committee of the Board, and provided IT oversight experience to the Board. 

 

As a Senior IT leader at FedEx, David Zanca served as the IT Executive responsible for bringing market leadership across the customer-facing domains of FedEx – the systems that support its world-class shipping and customer service solutions, revenue systems, FedEx Office digital-to-print solutions, the award-winning fedex.com, and innovations such as SenseAware(sm). A primary focus for David was the extension of a ‘Connectedness’ strategy that was the forerunner to many of today’s digital strategies: embedding FedEx services into mobile devices and applications that customers use every day.  The digital ‘Connectedness’ strategy has enabled FedEx to be a leader in ecommerce delivery capabilities. Prior to that role, David was Senior Vice President of Information Technology and CIO with FedEx Freight, leading its IT strategy, operations, applications and infrastructure. 

He holds an MBA from Emory University and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. He holds professional certifications including Certified Public Accountant, General Information Assurance-Information Security Officer, Certified Data Processing Professional, and Certified Production and Inventory Control specialist.

Married for over 35 years, David is the father of two children. His interests begin with family activities and include travel, hiking, college basketball, golf, running and reading non-fiction. He has served in his local churches as a lay leader, trustee, elder and teacher.  

 

Since retiring from FedEx, David has continued to work within the IT and digital communities as a member of advisory boards, consulting for a number of companies, and coaching the next generation of IT leadership.
